The First of May and the reestablishment of association

The November 14, 2010, meeting at the Workers' Social Club Polar, over 800 union leaders and workers from different regions and industrial sectors of the country, we are the Self-Defense Against Employment, Wages, the union and the Social Security (FADESSS).

The goal is to organize the struggle of workers in Venezuela, against the national government's labor policies that affect our interests as a class and address the abuses of public sector employers and private, to defend freedom, autonomy and union democracy , and to rebuild the labor movement.

On January 8 this year, met in Caracas more than 100 trade unionists, workers and retirees, informal, fired from different government agencies and private enterprise to define our first march. The strength that lies in the Venezuelan working class was expressed on 5 February, in the militant mobilization of more than 10,000 people demanding respect for labor rights and trade unions.

In March we won the release of Ruben Gonzalez, the leader of the Orinoco Ferrominera Association imprisoned for exercising their right to strike. The joy and strength radiated by this success encouraged us to continue breaking the fear. Subsequently, we report in Valencia, Guyana and Zulia. Now the largest organized, unitary, independent, feisty and beautiful place by 1 May, and has not been seen in the country ...

As working class depend on the income it provides us a job, either while working or well when we came away with a retirement or pension. For such remuneration and the social security system are worthy, we need good collective agreements, conquered by a strong union. But the country's trade union world has been repressed in the past 10 years and the weakness caused, together with disorganization, affects us: we lost entitlements and impossible to make new claims.

We firmly believe that from the FADESS, we encourage the reestablishment of association in Venezuela. This is a bottom-up construction and only discussion we outline the new organization that would like to erect. Los Teques, the core of FADESSS MIRANDA promote this dialogue with representatives of the national leadership of FADESSS, moderation of Hope Hermida (former union executive court administration) and the presentation "The process of association in Venezuela," presented by social scientist Ramon Francisco Reyes, a rural teacher in the Mountain Laguneta.
